Course Description

Explores the history, theology, and cultural contexts of Methodist worship, primarily in the United States, including both the authorized liturgies and the actual practices of local congregations including: preaching, prayer, the use of the Bible, baptism, communion, music, architecture, weddings, funerals, revivals, camp-meetings, the liturgical calendar, and who was allowed to participate in the different aspects of the services. Focuses on predecessors of The United Methodist Church, though other expressions within the tradition will also be reviewed.
