Restorying Christianities I: From the Beginnings to the Reformation
Course Description
Retells the stories of Christianities from its origins to the reformation movements, paying close attention to the intentionally and institutionally forgotten, sidelined, and omitted experiences and expressions of the people. Enables the learning community to engage in a constructive study of heresies and heretical movements, provides tools to adopt anti-imperial readings of early Christianities and the ecumenical councils that developed Christian doctrines. The development of Christian traditions, theological debates, schisms, and issues that shattered and shaped the movement will be examined particularly from the perspectives of the marginalized communities. Historical connections and implications will be drawn to the contemporary challenges that confront Christian communities in the margins.
