Studies select Christian communities in their historical contexts, emphasizing the interplay of history and religious life and exploring the social and political dynamics in how Christian communities form and flourish, disagree over, and nurture their similar and yet different understandings of Christian faith and life. Emphasizes the role of gender and sexuality as well as race and culture by investigating the varying ways in which the gospel of Jesus Christ has been interpreted in relation to colonialism and hetero-patriarchy within Christian communities.
